Overview
Enterprise Data Center Engineer and Architect, with Professional Computer and Information Service experience since 1992 in a variety of environments and responsibilities. Specializations include Virtualization, Systems Security, Enterprise Architecture, Storage Area Networks, Databases, High Performance environments, Software Engineering and managing projects, tasks and individuals.
Skills
- Datacenter Management: Experienced with the architecture, engineering and operational nuances of managing a datacenter, including production Change Control processes and systems management concepts and processes (capacity management and tuning). Developed OSS software "Server Scribe" to track service health across multiple platforms (Windows, Unix, HP-hardware and more).
- Project and Time Management: Well versed in successfully managing large project deployments, itemizing individual tasks and dependencies and communicating tasks to customers. Well versed in individual cost and task tracking and chargeback, and time estimation of tasks.
- Automation: Developed ColdMetal OSS Provisioning system, worked with other automation tools including BladeLogic for Servers.
- Hosting Services: Architected and deployed website infrastructure since 1993, including some large scale websites such as iomega.com and participated in the deployement of bebe.com and petsmart.com. Web and Application servers including Apache, Tomcat, Weblogic, any J2EE and Oracle application servers. Participant in HTML4 working group.
- Datacenter Fabric: Experienced with storage area networks and datacenter fabrics, including Brocade, QLogic (HBA and Switches), Emulex, EMC Storage Arrays (CX, Symmetrix 3,4,5), ad-hoc SAN arrays (Sun) and Infiniband fabrics.
- Storage: Experienced with Logical Volume systems including hardware (EMC, Sun) and Software (HP-UX LVM, Solaris Disksuite, Veritas Volume Manager, FreeBSD).
- Security: Experienced with security architectures, policy management and auditing. GIAC Certified. Firewalls (PIX, Checkpoint Firewall-1, Sunscreen, ipfw, iptables, ipchains). Intrusion Detection Systems (NFR, Snort). Author of Pig Sentry. Published papers on Stealth and Bological Network Security.
- OS: Unix Systems and System Administration since 1992. Highly skilled in Solaris, Linux, FreeBSD. Also skilled in: Windows Server Editions, HP-UX, and other older Unix systems.
- Programming Frameworks: Experienced with C, C++, Perl, Postscript, Java, JavaScript, ColdC, PROGRESS, SQL, HTML, Pascal and numerous other unix scripting languages.
- Database: Experienced in deploying, managing and tuning MySQL databases. Experienced with interfacing and integrating with Oracle and MS-SQL, as well as running systems hosting Oracle.
